Rather than brave the crowds
later this month, we decided to visit
Starved Rock State Park over our winter break. After stopping at the Illinois Waterway Visitor Center for a glimpse of the eagles on Plum and Napoleon Islands, we headed to the park and climbed first the eponymous bluff and then Lovers Leap Outlook. We were rewarded with remarkable views of seven majestic birds -- calling, flying, preening, and simply
being.

How wonderful!
It was better than we imagined. How fortunate we were to be able to see the birds, too. Making that drive just to climb would have been a bit disappointing. Wry grin.
So glad you spotted one! We did this in Connecticut and they were so far away, perched only, on a terribly cold day, and hard to see.
Here again. Love that last photo. I miss the views of all the grays of the bare tree trunks seen in northern forests.
This tropical flora in Houston is just so foreign to me...
